Consider purchasing all this equipment and or film from the local photo shop rather than from the discount drug store. The photo specialists will be able to assess your intentions, provide useful advice, and recommend the best equipment and film for you. Make sure you buy enough film for your entire trip, as the availability of film in Tanzania is not guaranteed and the cost is prohibitive. Camera Care Because this climb takes you from equatorial tropics to arctic conditions, it will be necessary to take measures to protect your camera equipment and film from the elements. Make sure you waterproof everything. Bring a waterproof container ziploc bags are great ; for your film, camera, and lenses filters, which will also aid in keeping dust and dirt out. On your final ascent, the temperatures will most likely be below 32 deg. F, and you must take steps to ensure that your camera does not freeze. If you put cameras and lenses, etc. in the inner pockets of your parka, or in pockets of an inner layer where they can receive your body heat ; , that will be sufficient. A smaller "point and shoot" camera is best for summit shots, as the larger cameras may be difficult and awkward to fit inside your parka. Your daypack is not an advisable location for keeping this equipment on the final ascent, and in general, insulated containers are too bulky and heavy to be useful. Upon summiting, you'll want a few nice shots, so make sure your camera is all set up. The last thing you'll want to do at Uhuru Peak is change your lens and fuss with loading a new roll of film. Make sure you return the camera to warmth, as it doesn't take long for it to freeze. If you're certain that your camera is frozen when you turn it on, do not attempt to take pictures. Leave it alone and wait until you are back at warmer temperatures. You may want to consider bringing a backup camera in case your primary one expires. Digital Cameras and Video Cameras Digital cameras are a great option to standard film cameras, and can be easier to use on the trail. The ability to see and edit your images right away is an asset, and it saves you time and money in the absence of the need to change and develop film. You can also use most digital camera in freezing conditions without worry, though battery life diminishes quickly. 8mm or digital video are popular formats for capturing motion images from the mountain, and if you are sure enough of your abilities, then your efforts will give great rewards. You'll need to bring plenty of batteries, as the cold weather seems to shorten battery life. Consider bringing additional lenses and filters, but keep your weight in mind. You may be able to pay a porter to carry some of your extra equipment ; . Please take steps to guard your equipment from the elements, as discussed above.

We previously suggested that cadmium Cd ; , an environmental toxicant and constituent of tobacco smoke, inhibits progesterone secretion in cultured human placental trophoblasts by inhibiting low-density lipoprotein receptor mRNA expression. In the current study, we investigated whether Cd also disrupts progesterone synthesis via P450 cholesterol side-chain cleavage P450scc ; and 3 -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 3 -HSD ; , enzymes that play important roles in placental steroidogenesis. Human cytotrophoblasts were purified by density gradient centrifugation and incubated in Dulbecco modified Eagle medium 10% fetal bovine serum with 0, 5, 10, or 20 M CdCl2 for 96 h. Cells progressed to syncytiotrophoblastic maturity regardless of treatment. No differences P 0.05 ; in cell protein and lactate dehydrogenase activity were observed between untreated trophoblasts and those treated with CdCl2. However, P450scc and 3 -HSD mRNA transcript levels declined in a dose-dependent manner P 0.05 ; in trophoblasts cocultured with 5, 10, or 20 M CdCl2. P450scc activity was similarly inhibited P 0.05 ; by CdCl2 treatment, although 3 -HSD activity was not significantly affected. Coculture with 8-bromo-cAMP enhanced progesterone secretion in untreated cultures but did not reverse the decline in progesterone secretion induced by CdCl2 treatment. CdCl2 failed to influence cAMP content in cultured cells. Collectively, results suggest that P450scc enzyme is another site at which Cd interferes with placental progesterone production. However, it is unlikely that an inhibition of cAMP is involved with the inhibition of progesterone biosynthesis by Cd in human trophoblasts and methenamine.
Methadone is a safe medication, as demonstrated during more than 35 years of use in MMT programs. Taken as prescribed, it does not harm any body organs or health. Dealing with methadone withdrawals
Estimates that were similar to those of the direct comparison between current use of different antimalarial drugs, but with tighter CIs due to a gain in statistical power. A strength of the current population-based study is that we used a database containing drug exposure and medical information that was recorded in the absence of any study hypothesis as a routine procedure to maintain a patient's longitudinal medical record. In contrast, several previous studies exploring the safety of antimalarial drugs used interviewbased questionnaires. This study has some potential limitations. First, although the GPRD contains GP-recorded drug exposure information, specialised travel clinics also prescribe antimalarials in the UK, and proguanil and chloroquine can be purchased in pharmacies without prescription. Thus, not all antimalarial drug use is necessarily captured by this database. For the current study, we only included subjects who received at least one prescription for an antimalarial study drug from the GP. Thus, we may have missed subjects who may have received an antimalarial drug elsewhere, but this is more likely to have diminished the study size rather than introduced any substantial misclassification. Secondly, patients taking different antimalarials are likely to have different travel destinations. We were not able to adjust for `travel destination' since this information is not routinely recorded in the GPRD. While the travel destination is related to the choice of an antimalarial drug, it seems unlikely that there is also a consistent and strong association between travel destination and the risk of developing psychiatric outcomes. Thirdly, it would have been desirable to better distinguish between subjects who indeed took antimalarial drugs for malaria prophylaxis and those who received a prescription but did not take the drug due to poor compliance, poor tolerability, or having the drug as reserve medication. The latter can occur if travellers go to a destination with low malaria risk, where the drug is carried for use in an emergency situation e.g. high fever ; , but not ingested on a regular basis for prophylaxis. Such subjects may have been classified as users and contributed exposed person-time to this analysis, despite the fact that they did not take the drug. It is not possible to reliably quantify this misclassification, which we acknowledge is present.
Drug users are often described as a socially marginalised group in Swedish society Lander et al. 2002; Svensson & Kristiansen 2004, Fondn et al. 2003 ; . This condition is sometimes blamed on the country's restrictive drug policy Lander et al. 2002 ; . Although there are large number of associations and nongovernmental organisations in Sweden, only very few organisations have been primarily aimed at drug users see the article by Laanemets in this publication ; . There are, however, several associations for former drug users and parents of drug users, many of which have been influential in the drug policy debate and some of which claim to advocate the interests of drug users. The focus of this paper is on a relatively new association, i.e. the Swedish Users Union Svenska Brukarfreningen SBF ; . The SBF was founded in 2002 in Stockholm as an interest organisation for opiate users with or without substitution treatment methadone or buprenorphine, which in Sweden is called Subutex2 ; . It is the first and only association in Sweden whose board consists of active users of opiates including methadone and Subutex ; . Before the SBF, drug users in Sweden had lacked a public voice. The SBF is committed to defending the interests of drug users among others in relation to the caregivers in charge of substitution treatment. According to Berne Stlenkrantz3, head of the union since it was founded, the main background and motivation for the establishment of the SBF came from the difficulties in obtaining methadone and the problems in the Stockholm methadone programme: its high levels of control, strict demands on users, and punitive actions. The deepening of Venezuelan-Colombian economic integration must be understood in the context of the restructuring process and changes in the development model undertaken by most Latin American countries in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In Venezuela 1989 ; and Colombia 1990 ; , the introduction of market-oriented economic reforms and the dismantling of the import-substituting industrialization model paved the way for radical changes in trade policy. Protection levels were reduced by lowering tariffs and by reducing quantitative and other restrictions on both imports and exports; foreign exchange markets were liberalized; the role of the state was redefined; and foreign investment was promoted. Trade policy reforms in Venezuela and Colombia, together with those initiated in the mid-1980s in Bolivia, served to reactivate the Andean Group and to stimulate the drive towards liberalizing intra-regional trade within the agreement. Colombia and Venezuela led the way in terms of the increase in intra-regional trade within the CAN and convinced all member countries, with the exception of Peru and Bolivia whose common external tariff is lower ; , to form a customs union, albeit an incomplete one. Bilateral trade between Colombia and Venezuela, which was very limited in 1988 US$ 387 million ; , reached US$ 2.2 billion in 1997. The two countries have become each other's second trade partner after the United States. In line with the increase in trade flows, there has also been a notable growth in investments and a strengthening of strategic alliances between companies in both countries. There is no clear evidence that this increase in intra-regional trade between Colombia and Venezuela has produced significant trade diversion. On the contrary, some studies examined in this article found that the increase in bilateral trade has yielded net trade creation in a significant number of product groups. Evidence also exists that intraindustrial trade is increasing, which tends to minimize the social costs of the productive restructuring required by the liberalization of bilateral trade. The increases in Colombian-Venezuelan bilateral trade have arisen despite the persistence of violence in the former, drug trafficking, incursions by Colombian guerrillas in the border areas, and long-standing border problems. Some of these problems not only persist, but in a number of cases have become more acute. However, the increase in trade and capital flows between both countries has meant that diplomatic relations are now oriented towards cooperation and the development of joint solutions. The political instability that existed in Venezuela between 1992 and 1993, cannot be overlooked, however, nor can the country's deep economic crisis, which has worsened since 1993. Colombia has faced governability problems as a result of the allegations leveled against President Ernesto Samper. Despite these negative factors, there has recently been an increase in both trade and investment flows. Trade policy reform in both countries was followed by the creation of an incomplete customs union from early 1992. As a result of policy changes, and in spite of a number of difficulties, bilateral trade has increased, reaching unprecedented levels. This demonstrates that the potential for the growth in trade between Colombia and Venezuela especially since they are `natural partners' outweighs any negative factors that continue.

Ms. Kimberly Johnson serves as the Director of the Maine Office of Substance Abuse. She has been an indefatigable advocate of methadone treatment programs in Maine during a turbulent period of development. Maine did not have methadone treatment programs within its boundaries until 1995. Ms. Johnson has provided extraordinary and consistent leadership in resisting the efforts of community groups and elected officials in closing methadone treatment programs in addition to fending off legislation, which would have had a negative impact on the evolution of methadone treatment programs in Maine and the Northeaster corridor. Ms. Johnson also has the distinction of being the only State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Director to spearhead a major public relations campaign, through radio and other media outlets, to specifically support the methadone treatment system. The continued use of methadone treatment in Maine would have been seriously threatened were it not for Ms. Johnson's leadership in the face of such extraordinary challenge.
