CONCLUSIONS. We have investigated a host of processes possibly a ecting the heat and particle loads on divertor targets in a tokamak. Because measurements on JET divertor targets have indicated that, in H-mode conditions, the ion contribution dominates the target loads, we have used the orbit-following Monte Carlo code ASCOT to evaluate the ionic ow from plasma bulk to the divertor targets in JET. Under normal conditions B-drift towards the targets ; the in-out asymmetry was found to favor the inner target. Because the experimentally observed asymmetry is opposite to this, new physics was added to the simulations to find out if the asymmetry could be reversed to match the measured one. The collisions both in the plasma bulk and in SOL, where also atomic collisions were included and the collisionality was allowed to vary poloidally from one target to another ; could but reduce the loads but not reverse the asymmetry. The same was the case for varying the radial electric eld inside the separatrix. However, imposing a large outward Er in SOL appears to reproduce all the experimental features: the correct asymmetry as well as a sharp peak in the deposition profile next to the separatrix. Expanded Anion Analysis using Gradient Elution with the EG40 Eluent Generator The AS17 column provides excellent separation of a variety of anions including inorganic anions, oxyhalides, and organic acids, using a hydroxide gradient. Weakly retained organic acids such as acetate, propionate, and formate are resolved using an isocratic hydroxide eluent and the inorganic anions and a oxyhalides are separated with a hydroxide gradient, as illustrated in Figure 4. Using a potassium hydroxide gradient, these anions can be separated in less than 20 minutes. Extended Application Capabilities The unique selectivity of the AS17 column makes it an ideal column for methods development of specialized anion applications. Sulfur species such as sulfite, sulfate, and thiosulfate can be determined in a chemical industrial wastewater sample. With an optimized potassium hydroxide gradient, these analytes can easily be determined in less than 10 minutes as illustrated in Figure 5. The IonPac AS17 column is also ideal for the determination of anionic additives in personal care products. The AS17 column provides excellent separation of monofluorophosphate, phosphate, and sulfate found in dental care products in less than 20 minutes using a simple potassium hydroxide gradient as illustrated in Figure 6.

FAT mRNA was induced in liver and intestine of normal mice and in hepatoma cells to various extents only by PPAR -activating drugs. FATP mRNA was similarly induced in liver, but to a lesser extent in intestine. The induction time course in the liver was slower for FAT and FATP mRNA than that of an mRNA encoding a peroxisomal enzyme. An obligatory role of PPAR in hepatic FAT and FATP induction was demonstrated, since an increase in these mRNAs was not observed in PPAR -null mice. Levels of mAspAT mRNA were higher in liver and intestine of mice treated with peroxisome proliferators, while levels in hepatoma cells were similar regardless of treatment. In white adipose tissue of KKAy obese mice, thiazolidinedione PPAR activators pioglitazone and troglitazone ; induced FAT and FATP more efficiently than the PPAR activator, clofibrate. This effect was absent in brown adipose tissue. Under the same conditions, levels of mAspAT mRNA did not change significantly in these tissues. In conclusion, tissue-specific expression of FAT and FATP genes involves both PPAR and - . Our data suggest that among the three putative long-chain fatty acid transporters, FAT and FATP appear to have physiological roles.
